Becoming a parent is a significant life transition, but workplace support often focuses primarily on parental leave and the eventual return to work.
There is a whole period in between.
The early weeks and months after a baby arrives can involve physical recovery, significant changes in identity and relationships, sleep deprivation, feeding, emotional adjustment and the practical realities of caring for a newborn.
My work brings this often-overlooked part of the transition into the conversation.
As a DONA International Certified Postpartum Doula and Newborn Care Specialist, I have spent the past 10 years supporting families through the realities of early parenthood. My background in social care, combined with my experience working directly with new parents and babies, gives me a practical and compassionate perspective on what families need during this time.
I bring this experience into workplace education, helping employees access realistic information and practical tools before they need them.
Topics can include
My workplace sessions focus on practical, relevant aspects of the transition into parenthood. Topics can be explored individually or combined into a broader session, depending on the needs of your organisation.
Preparing realistically for the weeks and months after birth, including postpartum recovery, practical preparation, rest, nourishment and building a network of support around the new family.
Practical guidance on eating well during postpartum recovery, preparing nourishing food in advance and making food easier when time, energy and sleep are limited.
Exploring the emotional and psychological transition into parenthood, including matrescence, changes in identity and expectations, emotional wellbeing, mental health and the importance of connection and support during this significant life transition.

This is not an exhaustive list. Sessions can be developed around the needs, interests and priorities of your organisation or employee community.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to supporting employees through parenthood.
Sessions can be adapted to suit your organisation, audience, available time and particular area of interest.
Engaging sessions designed to introduce a particular topic to a wider employee audience.
More in-depth sessions with practical information, discussion, reflection and time for questions.
A session developed around a specific theme, employee group or workplace wellbeing initiative.

Sessions can be delivered virtually or in person, depending on your organisation and audience.
Formats can range from a short lunchtime session to a longer workshop or a series of sessions exploring different aspects of the transition into parenthood.
One of the workshops I offer helps expectant parents prepare for the weeks and months after their baby arrives.
Rather than focusing solely on birth, the session encourages participants to think about what happens next: recovery, nourishment, practical support, emotional wellbeing and the realities of caring for a newborn.
Participants are guided through key areas of postpartum preparation and leave with practical ideas they can use to start building their own plan for those early weeks.
This workshop can be delivered as a standalone session or adapted as part of a wider workplace wellbeing programme.
Sessions can be designed for expectant parents, new parents, partners or a broader employee audience, and can form part of workplace wellbeing, family-support or learning programmes.
I am a DONA International Certified Postpartum Doula and Newborn Care Specialist, with 10 years' experience supporting families during pregnancy, postpartum and the transition into parenthood.
Before becoming a doula, I worked for many years in social care, including supporting people experiencing homelessness. This experience shaped the way I work today: practical, respectful, non-judgemental and centred around the individual and their circumstances.
Alongside my work with families, I am a postpartum educator and advocate for greater recognition of the importance of the postpartum period. I have contributed to publications on birth and postpartum care in Ireland and internationally, and I regularly provide education and resources for families, doulas and other professionals.
My approach is grounded in the belief that people deserve realistic information, practical support and the opportunity to prepare for parenthood in a way that works for their own circumstances.
